PURPOSE: To provide a papermaking machine having a drying part that keeps the tension of a carrier belt for a paper web always constant in operation, without causing the jamming of paper.

CONSTITUTION: This papermaking machine has drying groups A, B comprising plural rolls 30 to 35 and 40 to 44, including a guide roll and a tension roll, and carrier belts 9, 10 traveling over the rolls and forming a continuous loop. The guide roll can be displaced to a location parallel to its axis as well as an angle to the direction of movement of the carrier belt. The guide roll and the tension roll are coupled to each other in such a way that, when the guide roll is displaced, the tension roll is simultaneously displaced in such a direction and to such an extent that the carrier belt tension remains at least approximately constant.
