To shift the picture written in pixels in a single action over the entire pixels by changing the state of an optical material so as to shift the states of the pixels.
Relating to one of transparent insulating substrates 3, optical sensors 1, which are constituted of photoelectric converters, a film having a polarizing function and a film having a wavelength selecting function, are formed on a transparent electroconductive electrode 2 that becomes a matrix structured pixel. An optical material 5 that refractive index anisotropy is induced by an external field such as an electric field, is interposed between the other substrate 3 and the substrate 3 on which the electrode 2 is formed. Two sensors 1, whose polarization directions are mutually orthogonal, are made into a set and are coupled to a signal processing unit and the signal processed waveforms are transmitted to the electrode 2 which is used to apply an external field to the material 5 of the adjacent pixels. An on-state or an off-state of the matrix structured pixels is shifted by applying the external field which puts the material 5 into an on-state or an off-state.
