To provide a parking support system capable of designating a parking trajectory for parallel parking which requires a small number of times of turning and a short moving distance.
A parking trajectory along which an innermost point of an own vehicle passes an intersection between a line of intersection with an adjoining parking space and a straight line, which encompasses a front end of a parking space of the own vehicle, during backing for parallel parking is obtained first. If the parking trajectory is unavailable, a parking trajectory is obtained by changing a steering direction, in which advancement is made for parallel parking, to a direction of approaching a parking position which is reverse to a normally adopted direction. If the parking trajectory is also unavailable, a parking trajectory along which the vehicle is tentatively backed from an original parking beginning position within a range within which an internal rear end of the vehicle comes into contact with the straight line, which encompasses the front end of the parking space, at the end of the first backing is obtained.
