To beautifully form a coating film and to lessen the useless consump tion of a coating material by supplying a clear coating material into the mortise of a plate for coating, pressing an elastic transfer body thereto to transfer the clear coating material to the pressing surface of the transfer body and pressing the pressing surface of the transfer body to the coating position of a golf ball, thereby applying coating.
The clear coating material is supplied into the mortise 2 of the plate 1 for coating to fill this mortise and the elastic transfer body 5 is pressed to the mortise position of the plate 1 for coating to transfer (adhere the clear coating material) of the required amt. of the clear coating material 3a to the pressing surface 5a of the transfer body. The transfer body 5 is formed of a soft elastic member, such as rubber, and the front end thereof is formed to the shape meeting the width (size) and shape of the mortise. The pressing surface 5a of the transfer body 5 is formed to a flat planar shape having slight roundness. The pressing surface 5a of the transfer body 5 is pressed to the marking position on a ball surface and thereafter, the transfer body 5 is retreated, by which the coating film is formed on the marking position on the ball surface.
