PURPOSE: To avoid producing the useless blank part between the picture information to be recorded partially, by transporting the recording paper in correspondence to the actual reading width of the original reading device.

CONSTITUTION: The optical shutter provided to the optical monitor window is connected to the variable resistor VR and receives the DC voltage corresponding to the shutter. This voltage is then converted via the A/D converter into the digital signal having the numerical value corresponding to the reading width to be applied to the pulse counter PCT. The PCT counts the pulses sent from the pulse source PS by the number corresponding to the reading width. Based on the count value of the PCT, the output image given from the solid state image sensor SIS is made visually to correspond to the set reading width. At the same time, the count value of the PCT is given to the motor driving circuit MD to drive the recording paper feeding motor M. Thus the recording paper is shifted in accordance with the reading width. As a result, the useless blank part can be eliminated even in the reading of the original.
