PURPOSE: To prevent inactivation of an enzyme component caused by free chlorine remaining in washing water by compounding particles comprising a protected ammonium salt or other chlorine scavengers into a detergent composition containing an enzyme component.
CONSTITUTION: A granular detergent composition containing the following components (a) to (c) as the indispensable components and containing practically no bleach is prepared: (a) an enzyme component which is to be inactivated by free chlorine, (b) an ammonium cation; an anion such as sulfurous acid, bisulfurous acid, thiosulfurous acid, thiosulfuric acid, carbamic acid and ascorbic acid; chlorine scavengers selected from the group comprising various salts including the mixtures of the above compounds and (c) the remaining part practically comprising various detergent components selected from the group comprising detergents of anionic, nonionic, bipolar ionic, amphoteric and cationic, and detergent builders, inherent materials, detergent auxiliaries and a mixture of these. The chlorine scavengers are preferably water-soluble or waterdispersible and incorporated into the detergent-impermeable nonhygroscopic carrier material.
