To provide a system and a method for regenerating a particle filter used for filtering particles from exhaust gas in an internal combustion engine.
The particle filter regeneration system for the internal combustion engine includes a plurality of combustion cylinders, an intake manifold, and an exhaust manifold. The particle filter regeneration system includes the particle filter adapted for communication with the exhaust manifold, a flame heater adapted for communication with the intake manifold, and a temperature indicator for providing an indication of a temperature associated with the exhaust manifold. A controller is coupled with the temperature indicator and the flame heater. The controller actuates the flame heater dependent upon a particulate filter regeneration indicator and the temperature indicator indicating a temperature of less than approximately 300C.
