To facilitate the transfer by providing a main transport means using a pallet or belt for transporting passengers, a disc-like rotating means having a contact part having a circumferential speed equal to the moving speed of the pallet or belt, and a hand rail means for guiding the movement of passengers from about the center to the vicinity of the circumference.
A handrail 12 is set on both sides of a belt 11, and divided into 12a, 12b in the middle of a main passenger conveyor 1. An intermediate getting-on and -off device 2 is connected to the middle of the main passenger conveyor 1, so that a passenger gets into a fan-like pallet 23 from a getting-on and -off part 22 on the side of the center part of a cover 21. The fan-like pallet 23 is moved circumferentially along an intermediate getting-on and -off handrail 25 by rotating a drive disc 24, and when it reaches a transfer part 26, the speed of the belt 1 is conformed to that of the fan-like pallet 23 to allow the transfer. Further, a passenger can smoothly get off by getting on the fan-like pallet 23 until it moves to the getting-on and -off part 22. According to this, a middle getting-on and off can be smoothly realized.
