PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor which can detect an abnormality of a driving force transmission mechanism and stop the mechanism safely before a step is brought into a speed abnormal state during driving without installing a dedicated sensor therein.SOLUTION: The passenger conveyor comprises a motor control system for controlling torque of a motor 9 of the passenger conveyor and a control device 13 for controlling a torque command value to the motor 9. The motor control system has: a converter that converts three-phase alternate currents from a three-phase power source to direct currents; a smooth capacitor that smooths the DC voltages converted by the converter; an inverter 18 that converts the DC voltages to AC power having predetermined voltages and predetermined frequencies, outputs the converted AC power to the motor, and outputs the torque command value to the control device 13; and a control circuit that gives a control signal to the inverter 18. The control device 13 compares the torque command value outputted from the inverter 18 with a torque decision value, and when the torque command value is out of the torque decision value, determines that an abnormality occurs in a driving belt 19 or a driving chain 12, and therefore executes driving stop operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
