To obtain a paste composition for hanging wallpaper, which is easily dispersible in water and is excellent in adhesiveness, water resistance, antiseptic properties, antimold properties, etc., by mixing a powder of a polymer based on N-vinylacetamide with a powder obtained by spray-drying a vinyl resin emulsion in a specified ratio.
This composition is obtained by mixing a powder of a polymer mainly consisting of N-vinylacetamide and being an N-vinylacetamide homopolymer or a copolymer of N-vinylacetamide with e.g. another acrylic monomer with a powder obtained by spray-drying a vinyl resin emulsion of 0.1-10μm-diameter particles of a homopolymer of vinyl acetate, an acrylic ester or a methacrylic ester or a copolymer of the monomers or a copolymer of such a monomer with another acrylic monomer or the like in a ratio of (5-60)/(95-40) and optionally contains 0.1-30wt.% filler.
