PURPOSE: To heighten the capacity density and improve the discharge rate characteristic by holding the active material, of which base material is nickel hydroxide particle powder having a metal plate layer made of nickel or cobalt on the surface thereof, with a conductive core material.
CONSTITUTION: Nickel hydroxide particle powder having a metal plate layer made of nickel or cobalt on the surface thereof is used as the main raw material of the active material, and this active material is held by a conductive core material to manufacture a nickel electrode. In the nickel hydroxide particle, since a nickel plate layer 3 coats on the surface of the nickel hydroxide particle 1 evenly and the cobalt powder 2 is distributed like islands in the metal plate layer 3 to be held by the metal plate layer 3, a micro conductive network can be effectively formed in the nickel electrode, and a high active material using ratio can be obtained even if the active material is filled at high density, and a nickel positive electrode having a large capacity density and the excellent discharge rate characteristic can be manufactured.
