To perform water saving and energy saving by incorporating a heat pump apparatus in a pasteurizer, and to prevent the generation of a temperature variation of treatment water at non-loading when a container is not carried into a treatment region, and to prevent the insufficient sterilization and the deterioration of liquid in the container.
In the pasteurizer 10A, the heat pump apparatus 50 which feeds a part of a heat sink and a heat source is installed includes: heat exchangers 62 and 64 for pseudo loading which adjust the temperature of the treatment water b; a brine circulation passage 66 which circulates a brine between the heat exchangers for pseudo loading; and a cooling tower 68 which is interposed in the brine circulation passage 66. When the container unloading state that the container w containing the liquid such as a beverage is not carried into a pasteurization tub 14a or a slow cooling tub 16a is detected by a temperature sensor 25, the operation of the heat exchangers 62 and 64 for pseudo loading, or the cooling tower 68 is controlled by a controller 80, and the temperature of the processing water b which is jetted to each processing tub is held at a set temperature.
