Abstract:

PURPOSE: To restrain generation of gas from a non-mercurated alkaline battery after the discharge operation thereof and enhance the safety when it is exhausted, by adding a compound represented by the formula to a gel type zinc negative electrode of alkaline battery.
CONSTITUTION: To a gel type zinc negative electrode of the alkaline battery, 1-hydroxybenzotirazole represented by the structural formula is added. Also, thereto 3-methyl-5-pyrazola is added. When chelate agent is added, Zn2+ or Cu2+ is added supplementarily so that the formation of an oxide in the area of zinc surface and the formation of partial battery with Cu-Zn are restrained to suppress generation of gas in the battery after its discharge operation.
