PURPOSE: To provide a patient transfer device which allows a patient to be transferred from a bed to a stretcher only by one or two attendants and besides, by simple operation without any transfer labor.

CONSTITUTION: A connection rope 3 with one end attached to a sheet 4 for transfer is wound up using a means 2 for taking up the rope, in a state where a patient is lying in a medicare bed 6 (fig. a) on which a transfer device is mounted. Then the patient is lifted up together with the sheet 4 (fig. b). Next, a stretcher 5 is pulled up alongside the bed and a slide rail 1 is drawn out in this state. Consequently, the patient is moved out on the slide rail 1 together with the sheet 4 (fig. c). After that, the connection rope 3 which is wound up using the means 2 for taking up the rope is wound back, and the rope 3 is removed from the sheet 4, thus finishing the transfer of the patient to the stretcher 5.
