PURPOSE: To smoothly form polka dots by applying a pigmented coating having a small contact angle or small surface tension in the form of scattered dots on a substrate and applying a clear coating compatible with this pigmented coating wet on wet thereon.
CONSTITUTION: The pigmented coating having the small contact angle or surface tension to the substrate is coated in the form of the scattered dots by air spraying, etc., on the substrate surface to form the patterns. The clear coating made of the resin having the good compatibility with this pigmented coating is then applied wet on wet thereon. The patterns and the clear coating are thereafter dried and are integrally cured. The polka dot-like patterns are formed by the coating alone in such a manner and the excellent smoothness is obtd. without generating large steps on the surface.
