PURPOSE: To reduce image memory capacity and to shorten cycle time in image recognition.
CONSTITUTION: In a pattern matching detector for image recognizing device 1, reference pattern memory 50 stores a reference image pattern in unit of picture element, and a VRAM 18 for screen display stores a detected image pattern in unit of picture element. When a CPU 10 computes dislocation between the detected image pattern and the reference image pattern, an address generation circuit 52 computes corresponding coordinates to take out the certain picture element data of the reference image pattern and the certain picture element data of the detected image pattern in accordance with the data based on the dislocation, and outputs corresponding picture element data from the reference pattern memory 50. An EXOR circuit 51 judges the coincidence of corresponding picture elements from the reference pattern memory 50 and the VRAM 18 for screen output, and outputs a judged result.
