Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a peak flowmeter that can be manufactured at a low cost and that has a long life, by providing a means for adjusting the movement of an indicator along the main body and a mass of slug for putting back the indicator in its original position. CONSTITUTION: A marker 68 can be slid along a tube 48 inside a slot. A spring 80 retains the marker 68 by friction. The marker 68 has an extremely small mass, and when a person exhales breath into an inlet's edge of the peak flowmeter 20, a disk of a piston 52 moves forward against the pull strength of a spring 60, the marker 68 moving in front of the disk of a piston 52. The piston 52 stops when it reaches a point where the force of exhalation and that of the spring 60 are matched, and, simultaneously, the marker 68 also stops. When exhalation is stopped, the piston 52 returns to a resting position determined by the winding of the coil spring 60, while the marker 68 remains in the position it has reached. Cylindrical slug of a certain mass is provided downstream of the marker 68, and by shaking the flowmeter 20, the marker 68 is pushed back to its resting position by the slug.
