To provide a pedestrian collision detection device capable of easily performing a failure diagnosis in the device and more exactly detecting a collision with a pedestrian as compared with a conventional device.
This pedestrian collision detection device includes one or a plurality of sealed containers installed at a front end part of a vehicle, a pressure adjusting means for adjusting pressure in the container, a pressure sensor for detecting a pressure change in the container, a failure diagnostic means for changing the pressure in the container by controlling the pressure adjusting means when supplying power and performing a failure diagnosis of the device based on a change process of the pressure change in the container detected by the pressure sensor, and a collision decision means for deciding whether or not the vehicle collides with the pedestrian based on the pressure change in the container detected by the pressure sensor when the device is diagnosed as no failure by the failure diagnostic means.
