Abstract:

To effectively and reasonably reduce a total shock of a secondary collision of a pedestrian against a vehicle body.

In this pedestrian protection device, when a pedestrian collision detection means 2 detects a collision with a pedestrian, an air bag device is operated to lift a rear part of a vehicle hood 12 by a prescribed quantity by a developing force of an air bag 8A, and a hood retention means is operated to retain the hood 12 at the lifted position such that the hood 12 forms deformation area for absorbing a shock. A pillar air bag 8 is expanded and developed on pillars 7, while a laceration prevention film 10 is expanded and developed over a windshield 9.
