To perform a peeling work without leaning an excessive moisture or an interfacial active agent solution on a backing by a method wherein the surface of a layer to be peeled is covered, and pressurized steam is continuously sprayed all at once to a previously determined area of the surface of the layer to be peeled extending to the almost total surface.
Heated and pressurized steam which is fed from a pressurized steam feeding means is jetted to the surface of a face to be peeled of a wallpaper, from a jetting hole 13 which is opened toward a space in a flat box- shaped panel 11 which press-bonds the peripheral edges of a side wall, and the space in the panel 11 is filled with the heated and pressurized steam. The heated and pressurized steam which is filled, comes into contact with the surface to be peeled which has a temperature being much lower than the steam, and is condensed and returned to water, and imparts a proper moisture to the surface of the face to be peeled. The moisture still has a considerably high temperature, and a starch/adhesive layer which is inserted between the surface of the face to be peeled and its under layer is rapidly swollen and softened. By this method, the peeling and the removal of the face to be peeled from a backing become easier.
