Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Peltier element drive controller which is capable of detecting abnormalities of a Peltier element and a variable-voltage DC power source circuit by detecting only an electric current flowing through the Peltier element, and in which the widening of a failure spot is prevented even with a structure manufacturable at a low cost, and to provide an air conditioner having the controller.SOLUTION: The Peltier element drive controller comprises: a variable-voltage DC power source circuit 10 for applying a voltage to a Peltier element 9; a current detector 11 for detecting an electric current flowing through the Peltier element 9; and a microcomputer 1 for variably controlling an output voltage of the variable-voltage DC power source circuit 10 so that a detection current value detected by the current detector 11 is stabilized at a target current value. The microcomputer 1 determines whether or not the detection current value detected by the current detector 11 falls in a predetermined current range including the target current value. If the detection current value is in the predetermined current range, the microcomputer determines the Peltier element 9 and the variable-voltage DC power source circuit 10 to be in their normal conditions, and continues controlling the variable-voltage DC power source circuit 10. If the detection current value is out of the predetermined current range, the microcomputer determines the Peltier element 9 or the variable-voltage DC power source circuit 10 to be in an abnormal condition, and controls the variable-voltage DC power source circuit 10 to stop passing an electric current through the Peltier element 9.
