Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a peptic ulcer remedy having no toxicity and no adverse action by containing a polysaccharide-containing substance originated from natural Polyporus Confluens Fr. as an active ingredient.

CONSTITUTION: The mycelia of Polyporus Confluences Fr. (FERM 10701), a kind of edible mushroom belonging to the genus Polyporus, are cultured by an usual culture method, washed with physiological saline and subsequently dried to provide the dry mycelia. The dry mycelia are charged in a cellulose tube membrane, dialyzed with a water stream, mixed with ethanol and subsequently allowed to stand for a suitable time, followed by centrifuging and lyophilizing the resultant precipitates to provide the objective agent comprising grayish white powder consisting mainly of a polysaccharide-containing substance. The peptic ulcer remedy has following properties; elementary analysis: C 41.15%, H 7.03%, N 2.47%; saccharide content (converted into glucose): 90%; protein content (Lowry method): 4.3%; coloring reaction: positive to phenol sulfuric acid and ninhydrin reaction; soluble in water and alkali, insoluble in organic solvents.
