To provide a periphery monitoring device capable of appropriately displaying a peripheral image while foreseeing the needs of an operator.
A periphery monitoring device is a device for displaying a peripheral image captured by a periphery monitoring camera 11 and comprises; a display device 15 that displays the peripheral image; a detection section 21 that detects an intention of a driving operation; a determination section 22 that determines execution of the driving operation; and a display control section 23 that controls the display device 15 to display a reduced peripheral image when the intention of the driving operation is detected, display an enlarged peripheral image when the driving operation is started, and end the display of the peripheral image when the driving operation is converged. Since the display of the peripheral image is started before the driving operation is started, and the display of the peripheral image is ended before the driving operation is ended, the periphery monitoring device can display the peripheral image appropriately while foreseeing the needs of the operator.
