To provide a permanent wave apparatus which can appropriately control a temperature of an electric heating rod to twirl the hair and can be continuously driven even in the case of a breakdown of a sensor or the like during an operation.

The electric heating rod 1 comprises rods exclusively for heating 1a and a sensor rod 1b and a controlling section 63 receives a temperature signal from a sensor 5 disposed on the sensor rod 1b and executes an on/off control of an electric current to a heating member 2 of the electric heating rod 1. A control target rod group X which is a combination of the one sensor rod 1b and the two or more rods exclusively for heating 1a is individually controlled. Also, when the temperature signal from at least one sensor 5 to the controlling section 63 becomes unable to be received, a breakdown responding means 63a that is built in the controlling section 63 works to control a group Xt of rods controlled in failure, which the above sensor 5 belongs to.
