To provide a permanent magnet electric rotating machine which suppresses iron loss caused by the reaction magnetic flux of an armature and allows effective use of reluctance torque.
The permanent magnet electric rotating machine has a first rotor core which is fitted with a permanent magnet and a second rotor core which has no magnet but a flux barrier. A recess is provided between the poles near the surface of the outer periphery of the rotor core fitted with the permanent magnet, so as to increase the gap length of a magnetic path on the side of a q-axis, and a magnetic pass of the reaction magnetic flux of the armature is easily made to the side of a reluctance torque rotor, in order to provide the permanent magnet electric rotating machine with a large output by effectively utilizing the reluctance torque.
