PURPOSE: To obtain a permanent magnet material contg. a rare earth element and having a much larger maximum energy product by adding Ga, In or Tl to a rare earth element-iron type permanent magnet material having a specified composition.
CONSTITUTION: This permanent magnet material is represented by general formula I or II, wherein R is one or more kinds of rare earth elements, X is one or more among B, C, N, Si and P, G is one or more among Ga, In and Tl, 0.60≤α≤0.85, 0<β<0.15, 0.001≤γ≤0.05, M is one or more among Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Al and Zn and 0<δ≤0.20. Since the permanent magnet material contains one or more among Ga, In and Tl, the coercive force (BHC, IHC) can be improved and the maximum energy product [(BH)max] is further increased.
