To provide a permanent magnet motor that prevents movement of permanent magnets inside permanent magnet insertion openings while effectively preventing demagnetization of the permanent magnets.

A permanent magnet motor 1 includes: permanent magnet insertion openings 24 that extend along a direction of a rotor axis of a rotor 20 and open; permanent magnets 23 that are embedded in the respective permanent magnet insertion openings 24 and that have cross sections, perpendicular to the direction of the rotor axis, shaped so as to be long along the cross sections; and air gaps 25 that are provided adjacent to outer sides of two longitudinal ends of a cross section of each permanent magnet 23, and near an outer circumferential surface of the rotor 20, inside each permanent magnet insertion opening 24. Between the two longitudinal ends of the cross section thereof, each permanent magnet 23 is in contact with an inner surface of each permanent magnet insertion opening 24. Each permanent magnet 23 and each permanent magnet insertion opening 24 have respective corners 26 at positions between the two longitudinal ends of the cross section of each permanent magnet 23.
