To provide a permanent magnet rotary electric machine having such a field system that it is possible to minimize each component of cogging and suppress cogging variations due to product variations.
The permanent magnet rotary electric machine includes an armature and a field system provided on the outer radial side or the inner radial side of the armature with a gap in between. The field system includes a yoke having substantially cylindrical sections and permanent magnets corresponding in quantity to magnetic poles on the inner circumferential surface or the outer circumferential surface of the yoke. The magnetic pole angle α of each permanent magnet as viewed from the central axis of the armature is 130 to 135° in the electrical angle. A chamfered portion in a predetermined shape is formed at the corner of the armature at the circumferential end of each permanent magnet and the side opposed thereto so that a magnet surface angle β of the armature and the side opposed thereto is approximately 125°.
