Abstract:

To provide a perpendicular magnetic anisotropic film which is useful for a high density magnetic recording medium etc. and which exhibits high perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, and a method for forming the same.

The method for forming the perpendicular magnetic anisotropic film includes: depositing a magnetic film formed of an alloy on an underlayer formed of a mixture of a first metal or its compound and a second metal; and heating the underlayer and the magnetic film during or after the deposition of the magnetic film. The perpendicular magnetic anisotropic film is very useful as a perpendicular magnetic recording medium material, a heat-assisted magnetic recording medium material and so on. It is applicable to, for example, a magnetic material for a magnetic storage having a surface recording density of 600 Gbit/inch2 or more.
