To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording head which allows its recording magnetic field to be effectively guided to a main pole tip, and its side fringing to be suppressed.
This head is provided with an auxiliary magnetic pole layer 21 as a first magnetic section, a main pole layer 24 as a second magnetic section formed apart from the auxiliary magnetic pole layer 21, and a coil layer for supplying a recording magnetic field formed in a spacing between the auxiliary magnetic pole layer 21 and the main pole layer 24. A yoke layer 135 is formed in contact with the main pole layer 24, and the width dimension of the yoke layer 135 gradually or continuously spreads toward the backside in the height direction, and toward a lower surface from an upper surface.
