Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a perpendicular magnetic recording medium the film of which is formable at a low temp. and which has excellent durability by forming a mixture prepd. by adding one kind of Al, Cr and Ti to iron or iron and cobalt and/or partial oxide of the alloy thereof as a thin magnetic film.

CONSTITUTION: The perpendicular anisotropy film consisting of the mixture formed by adding at least one kind of Al, Cr and Ti to the iron or iron and cobalt and/or the partial oxide of the alloy thereof is formed by a high-frequency magnetron sputtering method on a substrate such as polyester sheet or the soft magnetic film on the substrate. The partial oxide used for the perpendicular anisotropy film having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the film plane consists of the partial oxide expressed by the general formula [(Fe1-xCox)1-yMy]1-zOz (where 0≤x≤0.75, 0.10≤y≤0.30 and 0.10≤z≤0.60 and M is at least one kind of Al, Cr and Ti).
