PURPOSE: To lessen the deterioration in a head touch and the deterioration in an electromagnetic conversion characteristic by adjusting the curl quantity/ disk diameter when one face of a base is held exposed by removing the curl balancing film, etc., therefrom and the base is blanked to a disk shape to ≤0.1.
CONSTITUTION: The curl quantity/disk diameter when one side of the base is held exposed by removing the curl balancing film, etc., therefrom and the base is blanked to the disk shape is adjusted to ≤0.1. The curl quantity/disk diameter refers to the value obtd. by dividing the curling height (curl quantity) of the other end when the curl balancing film of a magnetic recording medium having a perpendicularly magnetized film on one face and the curl balancing film on the other face and blanked to the disk shape (without a central hole) of about 1W2cm, more preferably 2cm diameter is removed by etching, etc., and one end A thereof is fixed on a flat plate so as to bring the perpendicularly magnetized film faces upward by the diameter of said disk. The perpendicular magnetic recording medium which has the excellent head touch and lessens the deterioration in the electromagnetic conversion characteristic is thereby obtd.
