To provide a finger vein authentication device using the vein of the fingertip which is highly convenient while maintaining high authenticating accuracy as a personal authentication device which can be loaded on compact equipment such as a portable telephone or notebook-sized PC.
A finger vein authentication device includes: an input device 2 having a light source 23 which irradiates the finger with the rays of light and an imaging device 9 for imaging the rays of light from the finger via an opening 201; and an image processing part for processing an image photographed by the imaging device 9. The input device 2 includes: finger placement bases 501 and 502 for specifying the presentation positions of the tip and center of the fingertip; and a light shielding wall 503 between the finger placement base 501 and the light source 23. The light source 23 is positioned on the surface of the input device 2 or therebelow at the fingertip side of the finger placed on the finger placement base, and the rays of light from the light source 23 are faced obliquely upward, and the back side and nail side of the fingertip are irradiated with the rays of light.
