Abstract:

To provide a phantom for properly calibrating a spectrum calculated tomography (CT) system for various materials and various densities.

The phantom (72) includes a housing (74) enclosing an interior volume (76) and having a plurality of passages (78, 80) formed therein, wherein each of the passages (78, 80) is fluidly isolated from the interior volume (76). A first and second inserts (92-104) are included, which are configured to be positioned in first passages (78, 80) of the plurality of passages (78, 80) and include a material having a known material density. The material is selected from iodine, hydroxyapatite (HAP), tricalcium phosphate (TCP), body fat, fatty plaque, sodium chloride (NaCl), gold (Au), and iron (Fe). The material for the inserts (92-104) can be different materials or a same material at different densities.
