To obtain the subject antagonist capable of inhibiting actions of angiotensin II acting on an angiotensin II receptor and preventing a rise in blood pressure by the interactions of a hormone and the receptor by including a specific compound as an active ingredient therein.
This angiotensin II antagonist contains at least one of a compound represented by formula I [R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-6C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy, amino, etc.; R3 is a (substituted) 1-6C alkyl, a (substituted) 2-6C alkyl, a (substituted) 3-7C cycloalkyl, etc.; R4 and R5 are each a 1-6C alkyl, phenyl, a phenylalkyl, etc.; X is O or S; (z) and (t) are each 0 or either thereof is 0 and the other is 1] or its salt and, e.g. the compound is 2-n-butyl-4- spirocyclopentane-1-[(2'-tertiary butoxycarbonylbiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-2- imidazolin-5-one as an active ingredient. Furthermore, the compound is preferably obtained by passing, e.g. a compound represented by formula II through a reaction thereof with a (biphenyl-4-yl)methyl derivative represented by formula III (Hal is a halogen; R1' and R2' are each same as R1 and R2).
