PURPOSE: To provide the pharmaceutical composition for rectal administration, which contains 2-oxindole-1-carboxamide derivative and is useful as analgesic having anti-inflammatory action and the same bioavailability by comparison with oral administration.
CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for rectal administration, which has the effects mentioned above, especially the suppository which has approximately the same bioavailability after rectal administration by comparison with oral administration is obtained by incorporating (A) 2-oxindole-N-1-carboxamide derivative, preferably a compound of the formula [Y is H or Cl; X is 5-Cl, 6-Cl, 5-F, 6-F, 5-CF3, 6-CF3; R1 is benzyl, 2-furyl, 2-thienyl, (2-furyl)methyl, (2- ethynyl)methyl] with (B) polyethylene glycol preferably having average molecular weight of 4000-6000 or with (C) polyvinylpyrrolidone, as absorption promoter, preferably in following ratios; B=80-99.99 wt.%, especially 86-99.99 wt.% based on A, C=100-400 wt.%, especially 150-300 wt.% based on A.
