PURPOSE: To provide a phase detector by which accurate detection values can be obtained.
CONSTITUTION: This detector detects an unknown phase by using detection signals which have a cycle T1 and change against the unknown phase in a sine wave state. It is provided with a counter 5 that has a shorter cycle T2 than the cycle T1 and generates a reference signal in which phase θ is already-known in the cycle T2, multipliers 7-10 which generate pulse signals whose level is changed based on the detection signals and reference signals when the correlation between the phase and phase θ is established as specified, adders 11 and 12, a comparator 13, and a latch circuit 14 for outputting the detection value of the phase based on the value of phase θ while the level of pulse signal is changed.
