PURPOSE: To make it possible to lock the phases of two workpieces, by providing a master shaft and a master shaft phase detecting means on a first movable bed, and by providing a master sleeve and a master sleeve phase detecting means on a second bed.
CONSTITUTION: First and second master shafts 17, 26 and first and second master shafts 20, 23 are rotated while first and second movable beds 14, 15 are advanced. Then, the phases of first and second shafts 17, 26 and first and second master sleeves 20, 23 are detected by first and second detecting means 18, 21, 24, 27. Thereafter the second master shaft 26 is rotated by a value corresponding to a phase difference by a rotary means 25 with reference to the first master sleeve 20. Further, the first master shaft 17 is rotated by a value corresponding to a phase difference by means of a rotary means 16 with reference to the second master sleeve 23. Then, the phases of a torque converter unit 7 and the engaging section of a transmission 9 are locked together.
