PURPOSE: To obtain a novel phenanthrylenediamine which is useful as an electric charge transporter excellent in charge transportation capability, compatibility with a binding resin and stability.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is reprsented by formula I (R1-R4 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, an aryl; (a), (b), (c), (d) are each 1-5), for example, N,N'-bis(4-biphenylyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-9,10phenanthrylenediamine. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of 9,10-phenanthrylenediamine of formula II with 4-iodobiphenyl derivative of formula III in the presence of a base. The compound of formula I is useful as a positive hole transporter in the solar cell electroluminescence element and an electrophotography sensitive body. Further, the sensitive body is made high sensitive with excellent durability by forming a photosensitive layer containing the compound of formula I on the electrically conductive base material.
