Abstract:

To obtain an oil soluble phenol sulfide intermediate or an additive compatible with an elastomer seal, having a comparatively little chlorine content and applicable in a lubricant oil composition at high concentrations.

The intermediate or additive is represented by formula I with less than 1,000 ppm of chlorine content and at least 4 mass% of sulfur content. In formula (I), R represents a 1-50C hydrocarbyl group, (y) represents an integer of 0-4, aromatic rings may be different from each other, (n) represents an integer of 0-20 and (x) represents an integer of 1-7.
