PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal mixture which is excellent in electro-optic properties and difficultly crystallizable even at low temperatures and can be easily and industrially produced by deriving from at least two deuterium- containing cyclohexanone derivatives having specified structures.
CONSTITUTION: The above mixture is the one comprising at least two compounds represented by formula I (wherein R1 is a 1-12C alkyl, a 2-12C alkenyl or the like; X1 to X7 each is H or D, provided at least one of them is D; Y1 and Y2 are each H or F; Z is F, Cl, cyano, R2, OR2, CF3 OCF3 or the like; R2 is a 1-12C alkyl, a 2-12C alkenyl; and the cyclonexane ring has a trans configuration, provided that the case in which, although the number and/or substitution positions of the deuterium atoms in X1 to X7 are different from each other and R1, Y1 and Y2 are the same with each other, either all of X1 to X4 are hydrogen atoms or all of X5 to X7 are hydrogen atoms is excluded). The cyclohexane derivative of formula I can easily be produced from a cyclohexanone derivative of formula II.
