To provide a phosphor for EL that has low conductivity and can permit the EL emission, even in the case that a phosphor causing no EL emission is used, particularly, provide a phosphor for EL that can cause EL emission of high luminance and short wave length even when Ag is used as an augmenting agent.

The phosphor for EL comprises carbon nanotube electroconductive phase and phosphorus formed on the surface of a microscopic SiC base plate or powder particle surface or formed on the surface of SiC thin film surface on the microfine thin film. In a preferred embodiment, the electroconductive phase of the carbon nanotube is substantially oriented in a specific direction.
