Abstract:
This invention provides a photocatalyst having excellent activity under the application of light, for example, from a white fluorescent lamp with a wavelength of 400 to 500 nm. The photocatalyst comprises at least iron oxyhydroxide and titanium oxide. Titanium oxide exhibits photocatalytic activity upon the absorption of light with a wavelength of 400 to 500 nm by iron oxyhydroxide. The photocatalytic activity is such that the acetaldehyde decomposition reaction rate constant upon the application of light from the white fluorescent lamp is at least about twice the decomposition reaction rate constant of acetaldehyde with titanium oxide as measured under the same conditions.
