Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalytic reaction device and a photocatalytic reaction method free from the generation of a shaded part as in the case of using an additionally provided light source, improved in utilization efficiency of a catalyst to increase the activity of the catalyst, accelerated in the decomposition reaction without necessitating a light source having excess light intensity or wide surface area to be improved in power efficiency and reduced in the consumption of power.
SOLUTION: In a photocatalytic reaction device provided with a photocatalyst, a photocatalyst carrier 1 carrying the photocatalyst and light source for irradiating the photocatalyst with light and for decomposing a material in contact with, stuck to or approaching to the photocatalyst by a photocatalytic reaction, the photocatalyst carrier is arranged between high voltage terminals 2 connected to the power source 3 and the electric discharge light generated at the photocatalyst carrier site by the supply of current to the high voltage terminals 2 is used as the light source.
