Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photochemical cell with high efficiency and long service life by reducing or eliminating drop in energy conversion efficiency caused by disappearance of a low molecular weight solvent or increase in electric resistance and degradation caused by the stripping off of the joining interface between a semiconductor film and a charge carrying layer in a thermal cycle.
SOLUTION: A photochemical cell has a conductor layer 1, a semiconductor layer 2 having fine structure, arranged on the conductor layer 1, a sensitized coloring matter 3 carried on the semiconductor layer 2, a charge carrying layer 4 arranged so as to come in contact with the coloring matter 3, and a counter electrode layer 5 arranged so as to face the conductor layer 1 through the charge carrying layer 4, and at least one of the conductor layer 1 and the counter electrode layer 5 is transparent. The charge carrying layer 4 is formed in a liquid crystal state for example.
