To provide a photo-electrochemical cell using an inexpensive metal complex dye or organic dye, and having high conversion efficiency.
The photo-electrochemical cell is formed of a light receiving electrode composed of a semiconductor layer adsorbing a sensitized dye, the counter electrode, and an electrolyte layer arranged and installed between the light receiving electrode and the counter electrode, and the light receiving electrode contains semiconductor particulates sensitized by a compound expressed by general formula (1). In the general formula (1), A is a residue obtained by removing a hydrogen atom or a monovalent substituent from an optional position of a visible light absorbing compound having absorption maximum at a wavelength of 400 nm to 700 nm, B is a residue obtained by removing the hydrogen atom or the monovalent substituent from the optional position of a near-infrared ray absorbing compound having absorption maximum at a wavelength of 700 nm to 1,500 nm. L denotes a linking group. x and z denote each an integer of 1 or more, and y denotes an integer of 0 or more.
