To provide an illuminator having an LED and an EDLC, and a DSC including the illuminator.
An illuminator has: an LED; an EDLC for the LED; and a nonvolatile memory which stores a difference between color temperature/light emission spectrum of Xe gas and the same of the LED. Unused electrical charge in the EDLC is brought back into a power source battery. Light emission intensity is varied in accordance with a photographing distance of a DSC. A fill-in ratio is maintained by changing the light emission intensity according to an exposure time period. The light emission intensity of the LED is gradually increased and rapidly reduced at a peak. A mixture ratio of LED light beams having different light distributions is varied in accordance with a focal distance to change an irradiation angle. A group of LEDs are arranged in a ring-shape in front of a lens. During consecutive shooting, the LEDs emit light continuously or synchronously. The LEDs are directly power-fed from the power source battery without using the EDLC, to perform torch light emission, flicker light emission for reducing red-eye effects, light emission for notifying self-timer operation, and the like. A safety notification is performed that the LEDs do not contain UV light.
