To improve the portability of a photographic film cartridge owing to miniaturization at the non-use time thereof.

This photographic film cartridge is constituted of a take-up side unit 3 in which a light shielding film magazine 12 equipped with a freely rotating magazine shaft 12a is housed and from which one end of the shaft 12a is exposed to the outside, and a supply side unit 4 in which film 11 whose one end is locked on the shaft 12a and whose other end is made in a roll state is housed, and the units 3 and 4 are coupled to freely slide in a film feeding direction. At the time of loading the film cartridge in the camera, space between the units 3 and 4 is widened so that an aperture for exposure is formed between both units, and then the film cartridge is loaded. Since the film cartridge is made compact by narrowing the space between the units 3 and 4 at the non-use time, its portability is improved.
