PURPOSE: To surely record and read magnetic information on/from a magnetic recording layer on photographic film, to obtain a clear image without damage and to reduce the heaped quantity of sediment such as dust or the like at a magnetic head part.

CONSTITUTION: A head part 186 including a head core 184 is provided to have nearly the same width of the width of the magnetic truck of negative film on the sliding surface 182 of a read head 140, and the head part 186 is projected by a step part 188 formed at both end parts in a width direction, so that only the head core 184 is brought into contact with the negative film. Also, a notched part 192 is formed on a downstream side in the carrying direction of the negative film with respect to a head gap as shown by an arrow and the head part 186 at a point where the negative film is attached and detached in the read head 140. A recording head is made to have a similar shape.
