PURPOSE: To ensure satisfactory reactivity and to prevent excessive suppression of silver development by incorporating a magenta dye forming polymer coupler derived from a specified monomer into a silver halide emulsion layer.
CONSTITUTION: This photographic material has a substrate carrying at least one silver halide emulsion layer combined with a magenta dye forming polymer coupler derived from a monomer represented by the formula, wherein R1 is H or a substituent, X is H or a group releasable by coupling reaction with an oxidized arom. prim. amine developing agent, Z is a group of atoms required to complete a hetero ring, L is a divalent combining group, A is -CONH-, -COO-, etc., or phenylene, D is -O-, -NR"-, etc., R is an aliphatic or arom. substituent, R' is H, lower alkyl, etc., and R" is alkyl, aryl, etc. The polymer coupler has satisfactory reactivity and is less liable to suppress silver development.
